THE 1-PERCENT PLEDGE

JUST ONE PENNY FOR EVERY DOLLAR SPENT AT OAKLAND’S BEST RESTAURANTS CAN HELP ENSURE NUTRITION AND DIGNITY FOR ALL

When a restaurant displays the Dining For Justice logo in its window, it means that restaurant is part of our coalition working together to make sure no one in Oakland has to go without. Guest checks at our partner restaurants add a 1% surcharge, 100% of which goes toward providing community meals. We ask you to please join the food revolution by dining at our participating restaurants.

FROM A CRISIS TO A NEW MODEL

THE WORK WE HAVE DONE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS LED US TO RECOGNIZE OUR CONNECTEDNESS

In the days since our dining rooms were first closed, many of our restaurant partners have found new purpose in becoming part of the relief efforts to help feed those in need during the pandemic. Just as we once prepared meals for Oakland’s most fortunate, we prepared thousands of meals to help feed Oakland’s least fortunate. This new paradigm has helped to sustain us even as we helped to sustain others.

OUR RESTAURANT PARTNERS

A NETWORK OF SHARED VALUES HAS BROUGHT TOGETHER A DIVERSE ARRAY OF LOCAL CHEFS AND RESTAURANTS

Dining for Justice partners are 100% local and located in neighborhoods all over Oakland. They are restaurants large and small, serving cuisine from traditions all over the world. What brings us together is our understanding that our values surrounding food define who we are as a community, and our belief that we as an industry can collectively do more to support food security.

“This is such an easy way to give back to your community by asking your guests to give a very small amount of money to help feed those in need.  Our guests have overwhelmingly supported the 1% charge on their bill and have let us know that they are glad to see we are part of the solution for a very big issue in the Oakland Community.” Daphne Knowles - Owner, A Cote
