Helping feed all Oaklanders

A food revolution

Community kitchens

Community Kitchens’ founding mission is to unify and bring together our whole community to build stronger and more resilient foodways to support and uplift our marginalized community members, neighborhoods and businesses in Oakland.

We are committed to building a more equitable and just food ecosystem in Oakland by uniting independent restaurants, community-based organizations, government agencies and volunteers to create sustainable, community-centric solutions promoting food justice driven by the voice of the people.

We have been selected by Alameda County to build a new food hub in Oakland with an anticipated opening in 2025. It will be a model electric kitchen that will enable us to dramatically increase our community meal program, while also creating job and entrepreneurial opportunities to uplift our most underserved community members.

dining for justice

Dining for Justice is a community funding initiative that harnesses the power of Oakland’s world-class restaurants to make sure no one goes hungry in our community. One penny for every dollar spent at restaurants by Oakland’s more fortunate can make a difference in thousands of lives. It lets those who are struggling know that we care about them all the time, not just during times of crisis. For restaurant diners, it transforms restaurant dining from a purely private indulgence into an act of sharing and public participation.
