Community Kitchens’ founding mission is to unify and bring together our whole community to build stronger and more resilient foodways to provide direct food security support, as well as uplift our marginalized community members in Oakland. Together we cook for people who can’t cook for themselves.

We are committed to building a more equitable and just food ecosystem in Oakland by uniting independent restaurants, community-based organizations, government agencies and volunteers to create sustainable, community-centric solutions promoting food justice driven by the voice of the people.

Our Central Kitchen provides job training, wraparound support and pathways to culinary careers for those facing barriers to employment. From the kitchen to the table, our meal program supports our community at each step.

Dining for Justice is a community funding initiative that harnesses the power of Oakland’s world-class restaurants to make sure no one goes hungry in our community. One penny for every dollar spent at restaurants by Oakland’s more fortunate can make a difference in thousands of lives.
